It's a tremendous honor to be considered for Team USA in any capacity.
The announcement from USA Basketball says that Coach Smith and Vanderbilt coach Shea Ralph will serve as court coaches during the U18 National Team trials taking place in Colorado Springs starting May 15, as 26 candidates (from the high school classes of 2024 and 2025) are whittled down to a team of 12 players.
I'm not sure if Coach Smith's responsibilities extend beyond next week's trials. The team itself will be coached by Indiana's Teri Moren, assisted by South Florida's Jose Fernandez and Notre Dame's Niele Ivey.
