The Bears leveraged their long-term relationship with 5-11/180 Oklahoma frosh cornerback Jasiah Wagoner‍ to reel in the coveted DB portal transfer with his commitment to Cal today.

“Back in high school, I almost committed to Cal but I decided to go to OU,” Wagoner said. “When I went in the portal, they were one of the first places I thought of.

“I’ve known Cal’s coaches since I was a freshman in high school when they first recruited me and offered me so that was important to me. Being coached by coaches that I know and trust and having the opportunity to maybe play both inside in the slot and outside at corner was attractive to me and I’m just looking forward to being a part of a new environment at Cal.”

Rated the number two recruit in the state of Washington as a 4 star prep at Spanaway Lake High School in Spanaway, Washington, Wagoner totaled 36 tackles, four tackles for loss, a sack, four interceptions, five pass breakups, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery and was named to the prestigious All-American Bowl.

After committing to Oklahoma, Wagoner came in as a spring enrollee but suffered an injury that caused him to miss the first half of the season but was able to come back and play in the final 7 games, adding 3 tackles and 2 pass breakups as a true frosh.

Waggoner becomes the 35th commitment of the 2024 recruiting class and the sixth late signing period portal addition, joining Maryland TE Corey Dyches‍, Michigan State OT Braden Miller‍, Wisconsin DE TJ Bollers‍ and ILBs Teddye Buchanan‍ and Liam Johnson‍.

It took a year longer than I wanted but I'm glad he ended up as a University of California Golden Bear in the end! I hope he's in the Blue & Gold for all the eligibility he has left unless he leaves early for the NFL. Great to get a freshman transfer, I feel like they're usually upperclassmen or grad transfers
