Jaylon Tyson Named To All-Pac-12 First Team

By Cal Athletics
March 12, 2024

LAS VEGAS – California’s Jaylon Tyson was selected to the All-Pac-12 First Team, as the conference announced its 2023-24 men’s basketball awards Tuesday.

Tyson – one of 10 players voted onto the All-Pac-12 First Team by the conference’s coaches – is the first Golden Bear to earn a first-team selection since Ivan Rabb in 2016-17. The full list of 2023-24 Pac-12 men’s basketball awards can be viewed on Pac-12.com.

The Plano, Texas, native established himself as one of the nation’s most dynamic players in his first season at Cal, as he enters the Pac-12 Tournament as the only major-conference player averaging at least 19.6 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game. Tyson – one of 10 players shortlisted nationally for the Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year Award – finished the regular season ranked third in PPG and eighth in RPG among Pac-12 players, and totaled eight double-doubles, five of which were 20-point, 10-rebound performances.

Tyson’s 2023-24 campaign ranks among Cal’s greatest in terms of scoring. His 17 20-point games are the most by a Golden Bear since Jerome Randle (17) in 2009-10, and his 589 total points are the 12th most by a Cal player in a single season. Tyson is just four points shy of 10th on the program’s single-season scoring list.

It’s the first all-conference award for Tyson, who started his career at Texas and played for Texas Tech last season.

Criminal that Aimaq didn't at least make honorable mention. He was fifth nationally in both rebounds per game (11.0) and double-doubles (19) and 14th in the conference in scoring (14.7). Yes, he had his issues with turnovers and occasional sloppiness with the ball but still, that's crazy to not at least get HM.

I know we have our Aimaq detractors here... and the guy is far from flawless, but I thought his rebounding and double-double numbers would get him some votes.

Fardaws, you're on my all-conference team! Let's beat Stanfurd!

Daws can make them realize their mistake leaving him off the list if he shows up big this week.

Leilani McIntosh did that after being left off the all-conference team. In her next game (conference tournament) she had 19 points (5 threes), 5 assists, 4 rebounds, 3 steals, and 0 turnovers leading us to a 21 point win.

At least Tyson is not leaving before the tournament. If I am an nba owner I dint want that Asu guy on my team.

What Jose Perez is doing at ASU is no different than the current darling of 49er fans, Christian McCaffery, setting the precedent by bailing on his Stanford team before the Sun Bowl.

Well, I wouldn't want him because he's barely even a G-League caliber player if that.

The Fardaws snub is definitely bulletin board material, hope he's motivated. As most people here know, I don't think he's a great player, just good. But to say that there are 20 Pac 12 players better than him (counting 1st, 2nd and honorable mentions) is just crazy.

Roxy just mentioned on the broadcast that he felt disrespected.
