Krimili, Twidale Earn Conference Honors

By Cal Athletics
March 5, 2024

BERKELEY – California guards Ioanna Krimili and Lulu Twidale earned All-Pac-12 conference honors, as voted on by the league's coaches and announced by the conference office Tuesday. Krimili received an All-Pac-12 honorable mention while Twidale earned Pac-12 All-Freshman honorable mention.

Krimili, a graduate transfer from the University of San Fransisco, led the Golden Bears in scoring (13.7 points per game) and finished tied for first in the Pac-12 in 3-pointers made (47) during conference play. She totaled four Pac-12 games with at least five made 3-pointers, which led the conference. Krimili's 24 career games with at least five made triples rank second in the nation among active players. Earlier this season, she joined 12 other active players in the country to reach 300 made 3-pointers for her career and 23 active players to score 2,000 career points.

"Io stepped in and made a major impact for us right away," Cal head coach Charmin Smith said. "She's established herself as one of the top 3-point shooters in the nation not just this year, but throughout her career. You have to guard her as soon as she crosses halfcourt. She's definitely been a great weapon for us this year."

Twidale, in her first year with the Golden Bears out of Australia, finished fourth among all Pac-12 freshmen in 3-pointers made (34) while being the only one in the top nine to average under 20 minutes per contest. She is only one of two freshmen in the conference to have scored at least 24 points or hit six 3-pointers in a game – accomplishing both against Arizona on Feb. 25. Twidale finished tied for third among all Pac-12 freshmen for games with multiple 3-pointers made (10).

"Lulu is one of the most fearless freshmen I have seen," Smith said. "She plays with the confidence of a veteran and has shown the ability to score from outside the arc and to attack the rim. I'm excited about the impact she will continue to have on this program!"

Cal is the eighth seed in this week's Pac-12 Women's Basketball Tournament and is slated to face ninth-seeded Washington State at 2:30 p.m. PST on Wednesday at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.

Do I ever agree with that! Assuming she wants to live overseas, I think Leilani would make some Euro or Asian team very happy.

Ditto on congratulations!

Leilani finished this season in the top 10 of the Pac-12 in the following statistical categories:
* 2nd in assists (5.00 per game)
* 9th in three-point percentage (.413)
* 9th in free throw percentage (.812)
* 10th in steals (1.63 per game)
* 10th in A/TO ratio (2.05)
Not to mention great defense.

I guess they prefer volume scorers.

To be Honorable Mention, a player needs to receive at least ONE (1) vote from the 12 coaches. Of course, Charmin can't vote for her own player.

You mean to tell me that not one of the other 11 coaches thought Leilani was worthy??? Good grief!

Hope she wreaks havoc on the court today!! Go Bears!!

She got a 2nd team vote from me. And yes, she had a very good game in today's win with 19 points on 7-15 shooting and 5-9 from 3 with 4 rebounds and 5 assists, 3 steals and no turnovers.

I'm very pleased you got your wish. Leilani has been Cal's backbone for five years now, and I wish she could stay another five.
